10 of your biggest Apple device questions answered

We get a lot of questions about Apple devices and how to troubleshoot the most common issues our customers face. The internet is vast and instead of visiting a million different sites looking for answers, we’ve compiled our most frequently asked Apple device questions into this one handy list and we even answered them for you! If you’re still having issues with your Apple device, take it into your nearest uBreakiFix store to get the problem diagnosed for free.

What should I do if my iPhone touch screen is not working?

With both hardware and software issues, you should always start with a soft reset, which means powering down your device, leaving it off for a few minutes, then turning it back on. If your touch screen still doesn’t work after the soft reset, the LCD screen is most likely damaged or experiencing a malfunction. The LCD is the screen behind the glass of your iPhone that controls what you see and the touch capabilities. If the LCD is broken, a simple replacement will make the touch screen on your iPhone work like brand new.

What can I do if I think my Apple device has water damage?

If you think that your iPhone, iPad, or Mac has water damage, skip the rice and get it checked out by a professional as soon as possible. The longer that water stays inside your device, the more damage it can do to key components. A repair professional can remove any corrosion and traces of water.

What can be done about a broken iPhone or iPad charger port?

If you think that your iPhone or iPad charge port is broken, first make sure that there is no debris stuck in the port and that there’s not an issue with the charging cord you use. If the port is truly broken, an iPhone charge port replacement is a fast and easy repair that a uBreakiFix technician can do for you.

Why does my Apple device have such a short battery life?

The lifespan of a battery varies depending on how much you use your device and how old it is. There are many things you can try to extend the life of your battery and you can read about them here. The good news is that replacing an old battery can make even an old Apple device work as if it were brand new.

Why do my applications keep freezing or quitting unexpectedly?

Software problems are really frustrating to deal with, but they’re also some of the easiest issues to troubleshoot! The best thing to do is a soft reset to start your device fresh. If the problem persists, check to make sure that your device is updated to the latest iOS update. If you’re still facing issues, the best move is to bring your device into uBreakiFix for a free diagnostic.

Why does my iPhone or iPad have no sound?

Issues with sound quality on an iPhone or iPad usually stem from a hardware issue with the speaker. You should first check your sound settings to make sure that the device isn’t on silent or Do Not Disturb mode wasn’t accidentally turned on. You can then clean your speakers and microphone with a clean, dry, and soft-bristled brush. If you’re still not hearing anything from the speakers, you should have it checked out by a repair professional.

How do I troubleshoot my iPhone Bluetooth problems?

For Bluetooth issues, like all software issues on iPhones, you should start with a soft reset and make sure that your device is updated. If you still can’t connect, try ‘forgetting the device’ in your Bluetooth settings and reconnecting. You can make sure that the issue doesn’t lie with the device you’re attempting to connect with by trying to connect with a different Bluetooth enabled device. As a last resort, you can reset your network settings, do a hard reset on the device (lose your data and settings), or bring the device to a repair professional to examine.

Why won’t my iPhone connect to Wi-Fi?

Wifi connection issues can stem from either your iPhone or your router. Check your router settings and your internet provider to rule out a service outage. You can then try to do a soft reset or reset your network settings from your iPhone.

How can I Fix Apple Face ID?

If Face ID isn’t working on your iPhone, first check that you are updated to the latest version of iOS. Then, check your Face ID settings to make sure that all the Face ID features are turned on. You should also clean your front-facing camera to remove any dirt, dust, or debris. Lastly, try resetting your Face ID profile and calibrate it again.

How can I Fix AirPods that Won’t Connect to a Macbook?

A connection issue with your AirPods and your Macbook is probably rooted in either a Bluetooth issue or a hardware issue with your AirPods. First, you should make sure that your Macbook has macOS Mojave 10.14.4 or later and that your AirPods are fully charged. Next, you can try ‘forgetting’ the AirPods in your Bluetooth settings and reconnecting them using these steps.
